UPDATED RESPONSE –  Jan 14th 2014 at 13:50 (previous response below)

Dear mccwatch,

I refer to your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and our earlier answer.

It seems we misinterpreted your request.  The capital cost as previously stated is correct. In terms of recurrent revenue cost, the new market is run under contract by a commercial organisation. The council receives an annual rental payment from this organisation. The council is not responsible for annual running costs; these rest with the commercial organisation.

I apologise for any misunderstanding caused.

If you are dissatisfied with the way the Council has handled your request for information, you can request a review by writing to the council’s Chief Executive, Paul Matthews at PO Box 106, Caldicot, NP26 9AN  (PaulMatthews@monmouthshire.gov.uk). If you remain dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have a right to appeal to the Information Commissioner at:

The Capital Cost is anticipated to be £5.25M. This is subject to settlement of all final accounts.
