Rewind story: making a splash with underwater photography

A visit to Abergavenny Leisure Centre now means you could go home with a USB stick full of digital images of your kids swimming underwater, thanks to a bit of innovation from one of our lifeguards.

Underwater photography is now available: a lifeguard trained in using underwater cameras will capture the fun going on in the pool and leave you with all the images – so no charge per printed photo as often is the case for family portraiture.

The service should get people excited about their local leisure centre and swimming, generate extra revenue, get staff trained in a new skill and be fun for everyone involved. As people show each other their photos the profile of the swimming pool and active lifestyle grows and grows.

Here, Ian Saunders and Dale Evans from our Leisure team tell us how the intrapreneur school started a creative thinking session that led to this service. We also hear from Nick Butler, who works at Monmouth Leisure Centre, who used the service with his kids last month.
